WAEC GCE English Answers 2018

As a matter of fact, the West African Examination Council, WAEC GCE is here again. Today, WAEC GCE English will be taken by all candidates since it is a compulsory subject.

This subject is very important to all WAEC GCE candidates because, without passing it, all your effort in this year’s WAEC GCE will be in vain, so you have to take it very seriously knowing that it is as important as mathematics.

Normally, this subject contains three (3) papers, namely;

  • PAPER ONE: This paper consists of a number of objectives (Multiple choice) questions for candidates to select the correct answer out of the several options given. It lasts for One (1) hour and goes for 40 marks.
  • PAPER TWO: This paper is made up of five (5) Essay questions for candidates to choose and write either a letter, an Article, a debate or Narrative Essay which will end on a specific key sentence. It also consists of a passage for candidates to read. This tests their ability in comprehension and2  summary. It lasts for two (2) hours and goes for 100 marks.
  • Lastly, PAPER THREE: This is the last paper you are going to write in WAEC GCE English Language 2018. This paper contains sixty (60) multiple choice questions for Nigeria and Liberia, and that on Listening Comprehension for candidates in Ghana, The Gambia and Sierra Leone. All the questions will be answered in 45 minutes for 30 marks.

WAEC 2018 GCE English Questions to Essay

Below are sample English Essay questions you should expect on your questions paper during your WAEC GCE English Exam. You are advised to study them critically and know how to write such letters, articles and debates for this is what will be required of you.

  • First and foremost, you are to answer only one question from this section. All questions carry equal marks. Your answer should not be less than 450 words. You are advised to spend about 45 minutes on this section.
  • Secondly, your friend in another school has requested information about your school to enable him to decide on moving over to your school. Write a letter to him discussing at least three areas in which your school excels.
  • Also, Write an article for publication in your school magazine, discussing the reasons why children in your area drop out of school and suggesting ways of minimizing it.
  • Similarly, As the president of your youth club, write a letter to the chairman of your Local Government Association complaining about the increasing rate of child labour and suggesting ways of curbing it.
  • You are the chief speaker in a debate on the topic: Women should not be in paid employment while still bearing children. Write your contribution for or against the top
  • Lastly, Write a story that ends with the words: That experience will linger on my mind for a long time.

Note that your letter must contain three parts, the introduction, main body and conclusion. Also, the instruction says that you should not write less than 450 words.
