International Travel Tips

This article is written for the benefit of those traveling for the first time and also for those who need to refresh their memories on travel tip. Here are 16 tips you have in mind before your next trip starts.

Luggage & packing

  • Package an extra set of clothes in your carry-on bag. Except you want to be angry throughout your flight trip just imagine being decked out in J’adore Paris apparel because the airline lost your luggage and you have nothing else to wear.
  • Airline checking my bag or not to check.  All airlines have their own policy guiding them. as to how many bags can be checked or carried on for free. So I advice you consult your travel agent before carry your hand bag to avoid embarrassment of additional fees.
  • Come with snacks. Traveling abroad is fun, but eating in a foreign country can sometimes become a task especially when you dint use a traveling agent, because a travel agent can make a special order for you. Come with some snacks that will help keep you on until you find that perfect restaurant.

Local Research

  • It has been proven over time that when you buy tickets now for places you know you want to visit or see. Buying in advance will help you to skip more lines, and find additional deals targeted toward you.
  • Get guidebooks. Guidebooks usually include maps, key words or phrases, and give you enough detail on certain sites that you won’t need to purchase the pamphlet at the venue.

Security and Health

  • Visit you Doctor along with your insurance carrier. Always be cautious of making sure that you have all the necessary vaccinations and make sure you renew all the important prescriptions. Also, confirm from your Health Insurance provider if your policies conforms to overseas standard for emergencies. If it doesn’t, and you want to include extra coverage, consider supplemental insurance.
  • Come with copies of your passport. If your passport gets stolen or misplaced you want to be convinced that you can still get back into the country, or be able to prove your nationality beyond every reasonable doubt.
  • Drop a copy of your passport with your spouse or family member. For extra backup, if possible make an electronic copy you can store in your email account as well its always important.
  • Once you are in a foreign country always Register with your embassy. This will always help you once there’s a problem in that foreign country and easier for your own government to reach you and get you safer.

Electronics

  • Come with a charger adapter. Plugs and voltage are different depending on the country. So if you want to use your gadgets, make sure you can charge it.
  • Before boarding check the voltage of your electronics. From my own experience I know that nothing is worse than having an adapter and still not being able to use a blow-dryer or a straightener because the voltage isn’t high enough for that country.

Money

  • When traveling internationally always know the conversion rate and the value of your worth bad surprise. Make sure you do your math before you travel to get a sense of where the conversion rate is at.
  •  Be sure your credit card is functional and acceptable by both Governments in the country you’re visiting. For example European banks have switched nearly completely to the more secure chip-and-PIN technology, and fewer businesses abroad are accepting the outdated magnetic-strip cards or your automated teller machine cards.
  • Constantly have local cash. Not every place takes credit cards. Especially important places like trains or buses.
  • Check the country’s entrance/exit fees. Some countries require travelers to pay in order to enter or leave the country. These fees are not included in the price of your airline ticket, and can range from $25 to $200.
  • Go to a bank or ATM in the country you’re visiting. The conversion centers in the airport or around the city tend to be huge rip-offs. You won’t get charged as many fees at the ATM or the bank, and the conversion will be exact.
